Zahid Supports Effort To End Conflicts
Between Shariah And Civil Laws
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department
Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said
he supported efforts to resolve conflicts
regarding civil and Syariah laws.
He said the harmonisation was possible
if there commitment and political will on
the part of the legal practitioners and authorities.
"I have asked the Sharia Judiciary Department
to hold talks with the Attorney General's Chambers
to determine the form of cooperation that can
be adopted to implement the effort," he told
reporters after visiting the Halal Product
Research Institute here, Wednesday.
Yesterday, Chief Justice Tan Sri Zaki Tun Azmi
said he would find ways to revolve the conflict
between civil and sharia laws to avert any
misinterpretation because many more cases
pertaining to sharia laws were expected to be
heard in civil courts.
Meanwhile, Zahid said the Halal Industry
Development Corporation would assist
the Halal Product Research Institute
of Universiti Putra Malaysia in marketing
its research findings internationally.
The research institute would also be be upgraded
because it was the biggest halal product research
institute in the world and in line with the aim
to turn Malaysia into a global halal product hub,
he said.
